A WEEK after Alan Toovey's manager declared his client was undervalued at Collingwood and shopped him around for a larger pay packet, the premiership backman has agreed to terms on a new two-year contract.

The 24-year-old confirmed his commitment to Collingwood on Sunday.

It's another boost for the Pies after Chris Dawes re-signed this week, and Dale Thomas, Scott Pendlebury and Dane Swan during the year.

Toovey, who was elevated from the rookie list in 2007 and played in the Pies' winning Grand Final last year, said he was thrilled to remain with the club.

"I'm happy that this contract situation has been resolved and I thank Collingwood for showing faith in me," Toovey told the club's website.

"As a team we have an exciting period ahead of us so to know that I have the opportunity to be part of that is very pleasing as I love playing for Collingwood and want to experience further success."

Last weekend, Toovey's manager Jim Marinis,  an unaccredited agent acting as  spokesman for the Perth-based Gavin Jahn from the Sports Management Agency, sent an email to rival clubs that stated they were unhappy with the latest offer from the Pies.

It said Toovey would nominate for the NAB AFL Draft if a trade could not be completed this week, and that talks had "broken down".

After the Herald Sun reported on Tuesday the Pies were frustrated with Marinis' "unorthodox" negotiating tactics, general manager of football Geoff Walsh said they were happy to have come to an agreement with Toovey's representatives on Sunday.

"We are very pleased to have reached a resolution with Alan and his management company SportsMA," Walsh said.

"We appreciate the cooperation of the managers at SportsMA and acknowledge their willingness to affect a deal, and a gain a satisfactory outcome for all parties.

"Alan is an important player at our club and for him to have committed for another two years is terrific for Collingwood."

Toovey has played 87 games for Collingwood since debuting in round three of the 2007 season, having been selected from WAFL club Claremont with the second overall pick in the 2005 rookie draft.

He played all 26 games in the Magpies' 2010 premiership campaign, and has established himself as a valuable member of the team's backline.

In the past three years Toovey has played 70 of a possible 75 matches, with a broken finger keeping him out for a month late in the 2011 season and internal bruising from round nine.
