About the Role

The Digital Content Manager will be responsible for leading the content strategy of the Carlton Football Club across all digital platforms including website, social media and mobile app.

An integral part of this role will be shaping a consistent brand voice and presence across the Club’s online platforms and delivering a targeted approach to drive engagement of Carlton’s online community, inclusive of its members, fans and stakeholders.

The role will require a planned approach to content ideation, aimed at generating meaningful cut-through that resonates with a targeted audience, in a way that aligns with the Club’s values and overall Communications objectives.

Reporting to the Head of Media and Communications, the successful candidate will have more than three years of experience in the content creation space, as well as being a detail-orientated leader who places an emphasise on forward planning, organisation and identifying timely content trends, with a proven ability to effectively manage internal and external stakeholders.

The ability to lead, motivate and guide a team of content creators to deliver outcomes aligned to our Brand and Communications objectives will be integral to success in this role.

This role will be offered on a full-time permanent basis. 

Key Responsibilities

Content Strategy

  • Leading the Club’s digital content strategy from ideation to execution, across all online platforms for the AFL, AFLW, VFL, VFLW and other non-football areas of the business
  • Deliver content in alignment with the Club’s overall Brand and Communications objectives
  • Ability to effectively and consistently engage a diverse online audience
  • Ensure the maintenance of a content calendar that demonstrates initative and forward planning
  • Ability to identify and leverage content trends for positive outcomes
  • Maintain accuracy and relevance in the delivery of editorial and club communications
  • Implement and lead effective strategies to engage and grow new audiences
  • Collaborate across the wider Marketing and Communications team, include videography and design


People, Culture and Leadership

  • Providing guidance and support to the Digital Content Lead and Digital Content Coordinator in their day-to-day responsibilities and their ongoing professional development
  • Effectively and efficiently delegate tasks to ensure content is produced to the highest standard
  • Maintaining effective working relationships across the Carlton Football Club and with external stakeholders
  • Foster a culture of high performance, collaboration and accountability in alignment with our Club values
  • Demonstrate our Club values in action

Measurement and Reporting

  • Deliver monthly reporting to measure the Club’s online content performance and assuring it aligns with strategic objectives
  • Work closely with the Club’s Communications and Marketing teams to ensure appropriate sentiment is captured across all platforms
  • Measure the Club’s content across industry-relevant benchmarks to further gauge online performance
  • Ensure the delivery of club content is to a consistently high standard and ahead of industry trends

Knowledge and Technical Attributes

  • Expert knowledge of a variety of Social Media channels including Meta, Instagram, Twitter, TikTok, Snapchat and more
  • Proven experience in content ideation, having led and executed content strategies over an extended period of time with proven results
  • Use of analytics programs including Emplifi and Google Analytics
  • Experience using a CMS, preferably PULSE CMS and Wordpress
  • Competent in using Adobe Suite particularly Photoshop, Premiere and Audition
  • Strong journalistic, written and editorial skills

Qualifications and education (Desirable)

  • Bachelor Degree in Marketing, Media, Journalism or similar
  • 5-plus years of experience working in the Content Creation space
  • Proven experience in leading an effective team
