Seniors Assistant Coach

Melbourne University Blacks Football Club is currently seeking an assistant coach to support the Seniors to a successful 2025 season.

Overview

Four of the 14 teams that represent Melbourne University Football Club (MUFC) play as University Blacks. Established in 1859, the MUFC is the third oldest Australian Rules football club in Australia, with only Melbourne and Geelong founded earlier. University played in the VFL between 1908 and 1914, and the club has been a powerhouse in Amateur football since 1921.

Position

The Assistant Coach will be responsible for supporting the Seniors coaching group in leading the University Blacks football program. The Assistant Coach will be also required to coach and develop the athletes under the direction of the Seniors Head Coach. The successful candidate will work closely with the Coaching group, Football Operations and Team Manager to ensure the highest coaching standards across the Club’s football program.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and innovation
  • Contribute to a transparent and effective selection process as a member of Match Committee
  • Contribute to the development of skills, physical attributes, football IQ & personal growth of all players
  • Oversee a line (Back, Midfield, Forward) and/or focus area
  • Provide regular individual and group feedback

Preseason

The Assistant Coach will be assisting for the coordination of preseason training beginning from November to March with two sessions a week.

Regular

Regular season begins in April to August with possible finals in September with two trainings a week and game on Saturday. Trainings will run from 6.15pm-8.00pm on Tuesday and Thursday nights.

  • Strong ability to develop relationships with a broad range of stakeholders
  • Excellent interpersonal and oral communication skills
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively and with a high level of flexibility both in a team and independently, in an environment with changing demands.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify and develop youth talent
  • Demonstrated ability to plan training and game plans
  • Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and be a positive representative of the University Blacks Football Club
  • Commitment to attend all training sessions, match committee meetings and matches including preseason

Desirable Skills

  • Demonstrated understanding of the ethics of amateur football
  • Previous Coaching Experience
  • Level 1 or above AFL Coaching Accreditation
  • Drivers Licence
