IT HAS become one of the famous footy rituals – Shaun Grigg and Dusty Martin and their Friday night dinners at Dusty's house.

In this week's In The Game podcast with Damian Barrett, retired Richmond premiership player Grigg speaks of his special relationship with the Brownlow medallist, including the time he refused Martin's weird request to bring something to dinner.

After 214 matches with Carlton and Richmond, Grigg officially retired last month, a selfless decision which allowed the Tigers to make a selection in the Mid-Season Rookie Draft, one they used on Marlion Pickett.

WHO MAKES FINALS? Do the 2019 Ladder Predictor

Grigg says it was awkward in 2017 to have asked his one-time housemate Sam Jacobs for hints how to play in the ruck, and then to use those tactics against him in that year's Grand Final.

Grigg also opens up on the lessons learned from playing with Chris Judd, the infectious locker room fun created by Jack Higgins, his friendship with Brendan Fevola and of the leadership of Trent Cotchin.
