Just one day remains until the Power players make their way to the Barossa Valley for the Port Adelaide 2006 AFL Community Camp, which runs from Tuesday, February 7 through to Thursday February 9.

The AFL Community Camp is part of a national program that will see all 16 AFL clubs in regional and remote communities across Australia, giving locals an opportunity to get close to football at the highest level.

Highlights of this week’s camp include:
- Team training both at Tanunda (Tuesday night) and Nuriootpa (Thursday afternoon)
- Mini Trial game at Nuriootpa on Thursday afternoon (Training begins 3pm, trial to follow)
- Power NAB AFL Auskick Superclinic & autograph session for all 5-13, from 5–6.30pm Thursday night. There will be plenty of giveaways for the kids as well. (Kids simply turn up on the night)
- Footy Forum on Tuesday night for all local sports club (not limited to football) administrators, coaches, umpires, youth and medical trainers, the highlight being the coaches forum presented by Mark Williams and his coaching staff.
- A fundraising dinner for the Barossa Light & Gawler Football League to be held at the Vine Inn in Nuriootpa

This will be the Port Adelaide Football Club’s fourth AFL Community Camp with the club previously visiting Mt Gambier, Murray Bridge and Port Lincoln.

Power captain Warren Tredrea says the players enjoy the Community Camps and urges all locals to get out and meet the boys.

“The players definitely enjoy the opportunity to visit a regional area, meet the locals and spend time with the teenagers and kids as well,” said Tredrea.

“The thing that makes these Community Camps really work is the number of people that come out to training or to the clinics, so we encourage as many people as possible to come along. The players are looking forward to meeting you.”

The Port Adelaide Football Club will be working closely with the AFL, SANFL and Central District Football Club throughout the Community Camp.

Power coaches, players and officials will run a community footy forum at Faith Lutheran College on the Tuesday night, February 7, sharing ideas and knowledge with local sports administrators, coaches, trainers, umpires and teenagers.

The Forums have been a real highlight at past camps and organisers expect another big turn-out this year. The event is free but bookings are recommended as the forums run concurrently and space will be limited. Interested people should call Todd Thorne on 0419 830 204.

Players and coaches will also take part in a fundraiser for junior football and umpiring development in the Barossa Light and Gawler Football League at the Vine Inn in Nuriootpa on the Wednesday night (February 8). Mark Williams and players will speak on stage and Bruce Abernethy is the MC. Tickets are $40 and include a two-course meal, beer and soft-drink. Tickets for the night are being sold through the Barossa Light and Gawler League football clubs and through the Vine Inn on 8562 2133.

Another highlight will be the Auskick Superclinic at Nuriootpa Oval on the Thursday afternoon at 5pm. We are inviting all children / teenagers aged between five and fourteen to come along and join in the Auskick Superclinic. The Power squad will train and play a mini internal trial game from 3pm, which will then be followed by the clinic at 5pm. The kids will get some great footy tips, some giveaways as well as have the chance to get autographs from their favourite players.
