3 TRIBUNAL MATCH REVIEW PROCESS
The expected process for the 2014 AFL Season under the AFL Match Review system is that the AFL will issue a media release late on the Monday after each round detailing the penalties to be offered to players for incidents from that round of matches, or the reasons why no further action was to be taken.
The clubs and players then have until 11am on the Tuesday morning to decide whether to accept the penalty on offer, or whether they wish to contest the charge at a Tribunal hearing, to usually be held on the Tuesday night. The AFL will formally detail all instances on the Tuesday of whether cases will proceed to the Tribunal or not.
There were no players were reported from the weekend’s matches.
4 TRIBUNAL HEARING LOCATION
The AFL Tribunal is held in the AFL media room on Level LB2 at Etihad Stadium. The AFL wishes to advise that all media covering the Tribunal hearings at Etihad Stadium need to park in the B2 car park (entry off the Bourke St extension) and report to the Etihad Stadium security office to gain admittance via the internal ring road. There will be no access via AFL House to any AFL Tribunal hearing through the season, as our offices will have closed by 6pm each day.
5 AFL BYE ROUNDS
The first bye period of the 2014 Toyota AFL Premiership Season will be conducted through this current three weeks. The club byes have been placed at the approximate one third and two third marks of the season to best manage an even split through the course of the year. It should be noted by all media that two byes was a primary request of the AFLPA and players, due to season workload.
The AFL does not support a complete week off for the competition through the season and the model of 6/6/6 games over the next three rounds enables a team from each state to be playing each week, as well being the preferred option for meeting the requirements of eight free-to-air slots for Channel 7 and 10 subscription slots for Fox Sports from these 18 games. The second bye across round 18 was decided to be enacted over two weeks to maintain best momentum towards the finals and was determined to be a 5/4 split as the best option, against playing the matches as 1/8, 2/7 or 3/6 over two weekends.
6 AFL INJURY LIST
The AFL wishes to advise the following recent changes have been made to the long-term injury list:
Adelaide Crows – Upgraded Charlie Cameron from the rookie list as the replacement for Nathan Van Berlo, who was already on the long-term injury list.
Gold Coast Suns – Re-instated Zac Smith to the primary list from the long-term injury list and returned Andrew Boston to the rookie list.
St Kilda – Re-instated Lewis Pierce to the primary list from the long-term injury list and returned Eli Templeton to the rookie list.
