Brent Macaffer’s return to the senior side saw the 22-year-old play a negating role up forward in Collingwood’s 48-point win over St Kilda.

Omitted from the AFL team in round 13 after playing 10 consecutive games, Macaffer was instructed by assistant coach Nathan Buckley to work on holding his opponent, Sam Gilbert, for most of the match.  ??

The young Magpie worked Gilbert over for the 30 minutes they were matched up, kicking two goals on him while having an equal number of possessions (five) during the contest. ??

“I was playing a different role to the one I had been playing in the VFL,” Macaffer, who kicked a career-high three goals, told CTV in the MCG rooms after the win.??

“I tried to go with Sam Gilbert and negate his influence and stop his third across work.  I tried to do that to the best of my ability.”??

Macaffer’s best on ground performance in the VFL last weekend earned the forward his 16th game of his career.??

“It’s good to get back in the side and straight back into a winning side.??

“I was happy that I contributed with a couple of goals.”??

Collingwood’s high level of intensity was a constant over the afternoon, the Magpies laying 23 more tackles than their opposition (77-54).


“We put four solid quarters together and came away with a win.??

"Without Trav down there we had a small forward line and we knew we had to put on as much pressure as we could when the ball hit the ground and I think we did that really well.”
