The 2008 Hawthorn premiership player became a Demon when he was claimed at No.75 in Tuesday’s NAB AFL Rookie Draft.
Relisted defender Tom McNamara will wear No.30 again, after he was selected with Melbourne’s last pick in the Rookie Draft at No.83. He was initially delisted following the first list lodgement.
Youngsters Kelvin Lawrence will wear No.45, Daniel Nicholson (No.49), Michael Evans (No.50) and Cameron Johnston (No.52) - the highest number for 2011.
From No.1 to No.52, six numbers have not been utilised: 11, 17, 23, 25, 32 and 51.
Recently, Jamie Bennell was given the No.7 guernsey, after wearing No.43 for in his first two seasons. Interestingly, No.7 was worn by Melbourne’s only indigenous premiership player: Eddie Jackson (1948).
Tall forward Lucas Cook, the club’s first pick in the NAB AFL Draft, has been given No.21, in honour of the number worn with distinction by 1946 Brownlow Medallist Don Cordner.
Fellow NAB AFL Draftees Jeremy Howe (No.38), Troy Davis (No.41) and Tom McDonald (No.43) also recently got their numbers.
