Stand-out selection

Drew Petrie

Price: $209,700
2010 games: 2 2010 average DT: 50.5
2010 highest score: 72 v Fremantle
Career average: 68.4
Round 1 break even: 50

An injury interrupted 2010 shouldn't put Dream Teamers off the experienced Kangaroo.

He averaged nearly 90 points a game in 2008 and 2009, and a break even of just 50 in round one means he's sure to add value to your squad.

Hamish McIntosh's injury means Petrie could spend more time in the middle, but even in attack his marking and goalkicking ability should make him a lock for a starting position in your ultimate team.

With only two starting ruck spots available, he might be a better option as a forward. But beware, Drew is suspended for round one and North has a bye in round three.

On the up

Todd Goldstein

Price: $310,900
2010 games: 21 2010 average DT: 74.6
2010 highest score: 119 v Adelaide
Career average: 62.9
Round 1 break even: 75

Goldstein was already posting respectable scores in 2010, but that was when he was playing second fiddle in the ruck.

Now he's the main man with Hamish McIntosh on the sidelines. The number 22 is sure to experience far more game time and his Dream Team output could increase significantly as a result.

In McIntosh's absence in 2010, Goldstein averaged 100 points over two games, including his best score of the season against the Crows.

Already a significant contributor in the NAB Cup and Challenge series, he looks a bargain at just a shade over $300,000 for a starting ruck spot.

Down the track

Hamish McIntosh

Price: $334,300
2010 games: 20 2010 average DT: 80.5
2010 highest score: 128 v Fremantle
Career average: 74.8
Round 1 break even: 81

Selectors should steer clear of McIntosh in the opening rounds of the season as he recovers from an achilles injury.

He'll be aiming for an earlier than expected return, but is sure to be eased in to avoid an injury reoccurrence.

Given he averaged over 80 a game in 2010, he could prove a wildcard if you are seeking a new ruckman late in the year.

The smokey

Ben Mabon

Price: $92,500
2010 games: - 2010 average DT: -
2010 highest score: -
Career average: -
Round 1 break even: -

Injury has restricted Mabon from registering any games in the NAB series but the big man has good agility and skills for a player of his size.

Mabon will no doubt start the season at VFL level and needs to add bulk to his frame, but considering North's depleted ruck stocks there's no reason to say he couldn't push for selection at some stage late in the year.

Keep an eye on VFL form before selecting.
