The Box Hill Hawks are seeking to appoint a highly driven, passionate and motivated individual that will be responsible for driving player development and growth. About the Role:
Reporting to the VFL Senior Coach, this role will assist with the technical growth of the 2025 VFL football program, through the delivery of high-quality coaching practices and be pivotal in driving player development and growth in pursuit of elite performance.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Manage the football skill acquisition development program for all Box Hill VFL Listed players
- Design, implement and manage individual player development plans for all players
- Create and run sessions that teach and coach craft / skills that are transferable to allow players to execute on game day
- Oversee and regularly assess the progress of players in the development program, ensuring that their technical, tactical and mental skills are advancing
- Monitor and review the effectiveness of the development programs, using data and performance metrics to refine processes and approaches
- Facilitate player reviews and evaluations in collaboration with the senior coaching team, providing feedback to players on their performance and areas for improvement
- Manage cohort of Development Coaches to assist at training sessions and metropolitan matches
- Understand Hawthorn Football Club structures and systems and work with AFL coaches to implement game plan at VFL Level
The ideal candidate:
You have excellent relationship building skills, with an ability to nurture and develop individuals ensuring a positive experience within the Club.
You’ll have a commitment to continuous improvement through education, goal setting and skill development which is supported by having a strong tactical understanding of the game and a proven ability to teach/coach the fundamentals of the game and ability to work in a high-pressure environment with competing demands.
As an excellent communicator, you can quickly build rapport and influence others. You have exposure to an elite sporting environment, and understand its environment, demands and intricacies. You can work a wide array of hours with varying times and schedules to suit the afterhours nature of VFL football.
Ideally you will be proficient in Sports Code and Hudl.
This role does require attendance at all training sessions (2 nights per week including captain’s run); match selection meetings; game days and Club events as required.
For development opportunities, attend one Hawthorn Football Club meeting / training session per week.

This role will be based at Box Hill City Oval. We support flexible working arrangements, whether it be form home, from Waverly Park (HFC HQ), or another suitable environment.
