SHANE Crawford says it was when he went to sign his new one-year contract with Hawthorn that he realised that he didn't want to go on.Speaking on Channel Nine, the Hawthorn veteran said retiring after winning a much wished-for premiership was "the perfect way to move on towards my next life."I was just ready. It was just a fairytale for me the way we ended."Crawford said once the decision was made to retire, it was like a weight had been lifted from his shoulders, but he admitted that telling his teammates he was quitting was difficult. He said informing long-time teammate Trent Croad was the hardest of all."We both got a bit emotional," Crawford said.He wanted to be remembered as a hard-working footballer, and said he could not think of a better way to bow out than with a flag.Crawford is expected to move into a full-time television career with Nine's Thursday night Footy Show and the Sunday Footy Show, as well as the Victorian travel program Postcards. But the father of two also wants to spend some quality time at home."It's time for me to be around the home a bit more and help out and put the family ahead of myself."
