AFTER a frustrating 2016 season, Allen Christensen has been one of the pre-season pacesetters for the Brisbane Lions.

Christensen dislocated his collarbone in a round 11 collision with Carlton's Andrew Walker and missed the remainder of the year.

There was a chance he could have returned in the final fortnight, but the Lions took the conservative approach and are now being rewarded.

Christensen is right on the heels of the club's best runners and said he had bigger goals for 2017.

"I just want to get a lot more powerful and stronger around the ball," Christensen told lions.com.au.

"I'll probably play a lot more forward, speaking to Fages (coach Chris Fagan), just becoming that dangerous forward who kicks goals but also puts on a lot of defensive pressure."

Christensen, who finsihed fifth in the Lions' 2015 best and fairest, was sorely missed as last season wore on.

"We thought at a stage there that I might get back before the end of the year but it was not to be and it was easier to take the safe option for me and make sure I got a full pre-season in," he said.

"It's healed really well and I'm back into full contact. I've had no problems at all."

The Lions are in the middle of a week-long training camp in Tasmania, where new coach Fagan is beginning to unveil his gameplan to the players for next season.
