Carol Knapp was the lucky major prize winner and walked away with $30,000 cash for her $200 lottery ticket investment.
Matthew O’Neill was the runner up and took home $5,000.
The Lions ‘Scratch and Win’ lottery gives participants four chances to win - Carol and Matthew took home the major and second prizes, but there are also monthly giveaways and a 1 in 18 chance of instant cash to be won.
Carol, a Lions member since 1995, said she was absolutely shocked when she received the news.
“It was actually my husband that bought the ticket for me, and he didn’t tell me! So it was a huge shock,” Carol said.
“I got the phone call telling me that I’d won and I thought ‘what is this person talking about?’”
Upon hearing the news, Carol asked her husband if he had bought the ticket.
“He said that yes he had bought it, and I said, ‘well guess what, sit down, we’ve won!’” Carol said.
“We have never won anything before so it was a fantastic surprise.”
The ‘Scratch and Win’ lottery was introduced in 2010 and donations all go towards purchasing equipment for the football department.
