Bondi beach on a hot summer’s day or the SCG on a soggy winter afternoon … This week I’m going to give you a rundown on the things that make Sydney the best place to live … and when we win like we did against Essendon, the SCG on a wet Sunday is a pretty good place to be!

I’ve been living in Sydney for over a decade and can only now call myself a true ‘local’. I think we are so fortunate to be living in the world’s eighth most livable city, according to a recent survey.

It is the way of living that sets us apart from other cities. It’s great we have so many fine restaurants that cater for all appetites. We have Sydney Harbour, which is home to two of the most famous landmarks in the world, the Opera House and the Sydney Harbour Bridge. I climbed the Bridge a few years back and it’s something I highly recommend.

Arguably the reason people love Sydney most is because of the beaches. In summer I love getting down to Bondi or Bronte Beach for a swim and cooling off with an ice-cream. We also spend quite a bit of time there in winter, doing recovery, and while the water is chilly, the beaches are still beautiful.

A number of the players on the Swans list are from interstate so it’s always hard convincing them to say they rate Sydney over their home city.

Craig Bolton is always raving on about Canberra and how much he likes the place, and the reserves had to play down there this weekend because we’d had so much rain in Sydney that they couldn’t play on the SCG before our game.

However, I’m not knocking Canberra, but I’m pretty sure Sydney might have a bit more to offer!

Nic Fosdike used to rave on about Adelaide, which caused a bit of anarchy amongst the group. Now Lewis Johnston has taken over, but his case is not very strong.

It’s quite funny that a few of the boys have been living in Sydney’s eastern suburbs for several years, yet have not travelled north of Anzac Parade. As someone who grew up playing for Sydney club Wests, I keep telling them that there are heaps of other cool places to visit.

I think I might have to get out my Tour Guides hat and take a few of the new recruits for a drive on the bye weekend - which is in two weeks time - and show them what Sydney has to offer.

The winner is Sydaanee!
