THE AFL has quashed speculation that Collingwood will be spared a trip to Perth during the 2012 home and away season.

Ahead of the full 2012 fixture release on Friday morning, the League said every club would play in Perth at least once next year.

All Victorian clubs will have at least five matches outside of the state.

And the AFL has sought to make the path to the top of next year's ladder more challenging for the top five teams of 2011.

Geelong, the Magpies, Hawthorn, West Coast and Carlton will each play expansion teams Greater Western Sydney and Gold Coast only once.

Greater Western Sydney will field a young team sprinkled with veterans in its inaugural year and is expected to find the standard of competition challenging.

The Suns, who won three games in their debut season in 2011 but suffered several heavy defeats, will also still be in development mode.

Earlier, AFL chief operating officer Gillon McLachlan forecast that this season's higher-ranked teams would be handed a large share of the coveted Friday and Saturday night slots in 2012.

"We will continue to put floors broadly under teams getting exposure on Friday night and Saturday night in the big free to air slots, but I think it's a reality, and it's not a new one, that teams in the top half of the ladder, the best teams, will get a disproportionate share of the marquee slots," McLachlan said.

"That's cyclical.

"I remember, probably about five years ago, when Carlton and Hawthorn were complaining.

"The had seven or eight free to air games, they couldn't get on Friday night, and they were down the bottom of the ladder.

"You'll find this year that Hawthorn and Carlton are a dominant force in the free to air fixture.

"So I think clubs understand that it's cyclical, and when they're really competing in that top half of the draw they'll get their fair share, and when they're not, those marquee spots are tougher to come by."

As previously announced, 2011 preliminary final foes Hawthorn and Collingwood will clash on Friday night in round one next season.
