Hi Shirley
In the 40's I was at all the games at the Junction Oval and sold footie 'records' before each game. Then I would sell 'chips and potato chips' until after half time and would then collect empty bottles and sell them back to the management at a penny a bottle. It was great fun and I got to see a lot of the action on the field. Keith was a great inspiration on and off the field. There were others on his team that I also admired, one was John Coffey who played at half forward, he was a brilliant mark who would feed the other forwards with incredible 'stab' kicks.

The VFA also played their finals at Junction Oval so it was always a busy season at the Saints footy ground. I have many great memories of those days.

You can be very proud of Keith, he set a wonderful example and was a great role model for the young kids. The players were paid very little at that time and had to keep full time jobs during the week. I guess they were true 'Saints'.
