CARLTON youngster Sam Walsh has had his misconduct fine upheld by the AFL Tribunal.

Walsh had been charged with pushing a player into the path of an umpire.

He had tangled with Jordan De Goey after a centre bounce during Saturday afternoon's clash at the MCG, causing the Collingwood superstar and umpire John Howorth to collide.

Howorth, who was backing away from bouncing the ball to restart play, was tripped as a result of the incident and momentarily fell to the turf before quickly getting up.

Walsh's representatives attempted to argue that rather than the Blues midfielder's push, it was the umpire deviating from his line that caused the contact to be made with De Goey.

However, the Tribunal deliberated for 21 minutes before finding him guilty of the offence.

Last year's No.1 pick had been offered a $1000 fine with an early guilty plea by the Match Review earlier this week, but that fine was raised to $1500 due to the unsuccessful appeal.
