HAWTHORN'S Clinton Young is expected to be available for the team's clash with Adelaide in Launceston this Saturday.

Young made a brilliant pickup in the greasy conditions and bombed home a long goal midway through the second term in the Hawks' 11-point win over Port Adelaide at the MCG on Sunday, but after the half-time break was stuck on the bench with an icepack strapped to his thigh.

The Hawks have their two lead ruckmen out with long-term leg injuries, and are also missing defenders Campbell Brown (knee) and Josh Gibson (hamstring) for at least a month, and small forward Rhan Hooper (hamstring) is listed as 'indefinite'.

Young had 11 possessions and a tackle to go with his goal before he was forced from the ground, and vice-captain Luke Hodge said he expected the 24-year-old to be right for the weekend.

"He hasn't had a scan, but I think it's just quad tightness," Hodge said at the Hawks' training base at Waverley Park on Monday morning.

"He said he felt it before he kicked that long goal, and then he said it just tightened up after that, so he seemed pretty confident that it wasn't too serious. He just didn't want to risk it."

Sunday's match was a mistake-fest in the first half, with an incredible 25 turnovers in the first 16 minutes, and Hodge, clearly one of the Hawks' best on the day, said the intensity from both sides was the cause of the errors.

"It was just the pressure. Port are a good tackling team, and they pressured as well, and I think we did the same to them," Hodge said. "It was a little bit scrappy in the second and third quarters, and I guess that came down to pressure from both sides.

"It was great to get another close win, but we're still not playing the way that we want to play - to get up by 30 points and then let them hit back, and they eventually hit the lead, was disappointing.

"Last year there were a few close games where we ended up losing the games, where at least the last three of four weeks we've actually been able to just get over the line in those close ones, which is a good sign."
