The AFL wishes to advise the Match Review Panel has reviewed the weekend's matches. The following charges were laid:

Charges Laid:
Sam Mitchell, Hawthorn,
has been charged with a first offence for making negligent contact with an umpire (Chris Donlon) during the second quarter of the second qualifying final between Hawthorn and the Geelong Cats, played at the MCG on Friday September 9, 2011.

In summary he can accept a $900 sanction with an early plea.

A first offence for making negligent contact with an umpire is a $1200 sanction. A early plea reduces the penalty by 25 per cent to $900.

Dean Polo, St Kilda, has been charged with a first offence for making negligent contact with an umpire (Ray Chamberlain) during the second quarter of the second elimination final between St Kilda and the Sydney Swans, played at Etihad Stadium on Saturday September 10, 2011.

In summary he can accept a $900 sanction with an early plea.

Other Incidents Assessed:
The match day report against Hawthorn's Jordan Lewis for engaging in rough conduct against Geelong's Joel Selwood during the second quarter of Friday's match was assessed. After speaking to the umpire and viewing all available footage, the panel determined that there was no forceful high contact made and the bumping action was not unreasonable in the circumstance. No further action was taken.

Contact between Collingwood's Sharrod Wellingham and West Coast's Mark LeCras from the third quarter of Saturday's match was assessed. After viewing all available footage and obtaining a medical report from West Coast, it was the view of the panel that the force used was below that required to constitute a reportable offence. No further action was taken.

Contact between Collingwood's Sharrod Wellingham and West Coast's Beau Waters from the third quarter of Saturday's match was assessed. It was the view of the panel that, after viewing all available footage and receiving a medical report from West Coast, the majority of contact was made to the body. The high contact that was made was below the force required to constitute a reportable offence. No further action was taken.

Contact between the Sydney Swans' Shane Mumford and St Kilda's Ben McEvoy from the fourth quarter of Saturday's match was assessed. Mumford's action was seen as a legitimate attempt to spoil the ball and was not seen as a striking motion. No further action was taken.

Contact between Carlton's Jeremy Laidler and Essendon's David Hille from the first quarter of Sunday's match was assessed. After viewing all available footage and receiving a medical report from Essendon, the panel determined that the majority of contact was made to player Hille's shoulder, with minimal high contact. The force used for the high contact was below that required to constitute a reportable offence. No further action was taken.

Contact between Carlton's Jeremy Laidler and Essendon's Jake Melksham from the third quarter of Sunday's match was assessed. After viewing all available footage, it was determined that Laidler and Melksham were coming from opposite directions in pursuit of a loose ball. Carlton player Marc Murphy takes the ball ahead of Melksham as Laidler comes to the contest. The pair meet front-on, the action was not seen as a bumping action and the panel determined the high contact was accidental and was not unreasonable in the circumstances. No further action was taken.
