Power players Jacob Surjan, Travis Boak and Alipate Carlile joined the Adelaide Thunderbirds today at Glenelg beach for the official announcement of the 2008 Thunderbirds team. The Power is the major sponsor of the Adelaide Thunderbirds and is proud to be supporting the South Australian netball community.

The Adelaide Thunderbirds are one of the five Australian teams playing in the new ANZ Championships, which also includes five teams from New Zealand. Today they announced their inaugural team listing that includes exciting talent such as Natalie Medhurst, Natalie von Bertouch, Mo’onia Gerrard, Kate Beveridge and Geva Mentor. The Thunderbirds will wear Power’s colours in their uniform as well as in their new logo.

Today’s activities saw the girls showcasing their talents on the sands of Glenelg beach in a celebrity netball match against Michelle den Dekker (former Captain of the Australian Netball Team from 1989 to 1995), Jenny Borlase (former Australian Netballer and Commonwealth Games gold medallist), our Power players and local media personalities. The game proved tougher than expected as the players adjusted to having to run on the sand’s surface. In the end, the “celebrity” team prevailed and took victory in a tight game 8 goals to 7. Although there was a last minute suggestion that the “celebrities” had bent the rules and played with more than seven players on the court!

This partnership means that Power supporters will see much more of the Thunderbirds in the months to come. Not only will the Thunderbirds be appearing at the footy in 2008, but watch out for Thunda and Power players at ETSA park to watch the netball.

Make sure you get behind the Power in supporting the Thunderbirds when the season starts in April 2008.
