HUGH Goddard is set to make his Carlton debut in this week's clash with Sydney.
The former first-round draft pick has been in fine form for the club's VFL affiliate the Northern Blues this year, earning his opportunity following a season-ending neck injury to fellow defender Caleb Marchbank suffered last week.
Jacob Weitering is also under an injury cloud, though Carlton still expects the in-form backman to make the trip to the SCG despite suffering a broken nose against Melbourne.
Goddard, 22, has averaged 16.5 disposals per game with the Northern Blues this season, while he leads the VFL for marks.
He was initially recruited to St Kilda with pick No.21 in the 2014 NAB AFL Draft, before being delisted at the end of last season. He was later selected by Carlton with the first pick in the NAB AFL Rookie Draft.
