BROUGHT TO YOU BYMLC

COLLINGWOOD added two more players to its already crippling injury list over the weekend, but there appears to be some good news on the horizon for Nathan Buckley's side with a pair of experienced performers set to return to the fray.

Experienced skipper Scott Pendlebury (finger) and key defender Darcy Moore (hamstring) hurt themselves during the Magpies' thrilling one-point victory over the Eagles on Friday night and are unlikely to make the trip to Sydney to tackle the Giants on Saturday.

The loss of the duo is likely to be offset with the return from injury of high-flying defender Jeremy Howe and tough midfielder Taylor Adams as the Pies attempt to maintain their spot in the top four.

Howe has missed the last three matches with a calf problem, while Adams made his long-awaited return from an adductor issue through the VFL on the weekend to show he is ready for a senior recall.

The second-placed Magpies are already missing star midfielder Dayne Beams (hip) and electric forward Jaidyn Stephenson (suspension), while experienced trio Daniel Wells (knee), Tom Langdon (knee) and Ben Reid (calf) are also out of action.

THINGS WE LEARNED No excuses for Dockers' collapse

The Giants have their own injury concerns to worry about, with star midfielder Stephen Coniglio hurting his knee against Richmond on Sunday and likely to be sidelined for the remainder of their 2019 campaign.

Coniglio will have scans on his knee on Monday and Giants coach Leon Cameron is hoping for some good news.

"Until we actually get it really thoroughly checked out, I can't give you guys an answer," Cameron said after the Giants lost to the Tigers.

"He's in a really positive headspace at the moment but if I said one thing and it happens to be the other, then I'm going to get it wrong.

"(We'll) cross our fingers that we get some positive news."

Fellow guns Josh Kelly (calf), Jonathon Patton (knee) and Callan Ward (knee) are already out of action and the loss of Coniglio will leave the Giants short of star power as they chase a top four berth.

A host of other big names were also hurt over the weekend during a bruising round of football, with the likes of Essendon veteran Michael Hurley (shoulder), North Melbourne defender Luke McDonald (ankle) and West Coast forward Jamie Cripps (adductor) all suffering setbacks.

Hurley hurt his AC joint in a clash with Kangaroos' youngster Cameron Zurhaar and will undergo surgery, while McDonald fractured the fibula near the ankle on his right leg and is unlikely to play again this season.

THE RUN HOME Who will make the finals?

Cripps damaged his adductor during the first quarter of the Eagles clash against Collingwood and won't be fit to make the trip to Alice Springs to take on Melbourne on Sunday.

In other injury news:

  • Fremantle star Nat Fyfe damaged his troublesome shoulder during the second quarter of the Dockers' loss to Hawthorn in Launceston. Fyfe got strapped up and returned to the field to play out the match, so should be passed fit for next week's clash against the Swans at home.
  • Key defender Hugh Goddard will remember his Carlton debut for the wrong reason as he fractured his cheekbone during the Blues' seven-point upset victory over the Swans. Young gun Paddy Dow had to pass a concussion test after a collision with Jordan Dawson, but he returned to the field and should be fit to play against the Suns on Saturday.
  • Geelong veteran Gary Ablett took a knock to his hip during the Cats' victory over St Kilda on Saturday night. The fan-favourite returned to the ground to be one of the Cats' best, but Geelong coach Chris Scott has hinted he could rest the superstar at some stage during the run home.
  • Pint-sized midfielder Toby McLean injured his hamstring during the opening quarter of the Bulldogs' eight-point victory over the Demons on Sunday and is likely to require a stint on the sidelines.
