PORT Adelaide utility Jack Watts is "more unlikely than likely" to play again this year, but the Power won't place him on their long-term injury list ahead of Monday's NAB AFL Mid-Season Rookie Draft.

Watts is recovering from a sickening incident in the Power's round two win against Carlton when he suffered a broken leg and dislocated his ankle.

If he was ruled out for the rest of the season, the Power would have a second spot on their list available to take a player in the mid-season draft.

They already have a position free with midfielder Jake Patmore sidelined with a torn ACL.

But the Power's general manager of football Chris Davies told reporters on Thursday the club wanted to give Watts every chance of returning to play this season.

"We won't (place Watts on the long-term injury list) do that," Davies said.

"Right now, we want to make sure Jack is given as much time as he possibly can to potentially get back.

"It's probably looking more unlikely than likely, but at the same time, we won't be making that call right now.

"We want to keep our options open for as long as we can."

The Power haven't decided whether they will select a player in the mid-season draft.

"We approach it with an open mind," Davies said.

"Our recruiting guys are still working through whether we want to have a selection or not.

"We've got to weigh that up with the number of guys we've got coming back from injury."

Davies said co-captain Tom Jonas (calf) and star forward Robbie Gray (hand) were expected to return for Saturday’s clash against Hawthorn at Launceston, while defender Ryan Burton was also in line to face his old club after making a quicker than expected recovery from a hamstring injury.

Davies also said ruckman Scott Lycett was a good chance to play despite training with the rehab group on Thursday due to adductor soreness.
