NORTH Melbourne is eyeing a move for Port Adelaide youngster Peter Ladhams, with the Kangaroos keeping tabs on ruck options ahead of this year's NAB AFL Trade Period.

Ladhams is uncontracted beyond this season at the Power, with a number of clubs understood to be monitoring whether he extends his current deal at Alberton Oval.

AFL.com.au understands North Melbourne is among the teams enquiring about his services, with the Kangaroos wary of the need to bolster their ruck stocks ahead of next year.

Todd Goldstein is an unrestricted free agent at season's end, with St Kilda circling the experienced former All Australian. Should he depart, it would leave untried youngster Tristan Xerri and pre-season signing Tom Campbell as the club's only ruck options.

Essendon rookie Sam Draper had also been on North Melbourne's radar, though it's understood the club's interest in the uncapped youngster has cooled recently.

Ladhams, 21, has earned two senior games with Port Adelaide this season, but has produced a fine campaign at SANFL level to put him firmly on the radar of rival teams.

Standing at 202cm and 95kg, Ladhams has averaged 21.5 disposals, 24.9 hitouts, 5.3 marks and 6.2 clearances per game in the SANFL and debuted at AFL level in round 10.

However, he has found senior opportunities hard to come by due to the extensive ruck options at Port Adelaide that includes experienced duo Scott Lycett and Paddy Ryder, as well as fellow youngsters Sam Hayes and Billy Frampton.

Justin Westhoff, Charlie Dixon and Dougal Howard have also been relied upon as back-up options behind Lycett recently, with all three having stints in the ruck against Adelaide.

Ladhams, a South Australian local, was recruited to Port Adelaide from SANFL side Norwood with pick No.9 in the 2016 NAB AFL Rookie Draft.
