AFL Statement

The AFL advises the Match Review of the games from Saturday and Sunday of Round Five have now been completed. The following charges have been laid with one other incident requiring further explanation.
 
Charge Laid:

Tom Hawkins, Geelong Cats, has been charged with Striking James Sicily, Hawthorn during the third quarter of the Round Five match between Hawthorn and the Geelong Cats, played at the MCG on Monday April 22. 

In summary he can accept a $2000 sanction with an early plea. 

Based on the available evidence, the incident was assessed as Intentional Conduct with Low Impact and Body Contact. The incident was classified as a $3000 sanction as a first offence.

The player can accept a $2000 sanction with an early plea.

Jacob Hopper, GWS GIANTS, has been charged with engaging in Rough Conduct against Matt Taberner, Fremantle during the first quarter of the Round Five match between the GWS GIANTS and Fremantle, played at UNSW Canberra Oval on Saturday April 20.

Incidents assessed:
The match day report laid against the Gold Coast SUNS' Jarrod Harbrow for contact on Adelaide Crows' Lachlan Murphy from the fourth quarter of Sunday's match was assessed. The ball is kicked towards the forward pocket for Adelaide. Murphy is running with the flight of the ball. Harbrow is running from the other direction from the goal square. As Murphy takes the mark, body contact is made. It was the view of the MRO that Harbrow's actions were not unreasonable in the circumstances. No further action was taken.
