CARLTON captain Marc Murphy will meet with his manager Paul Connors this week to discuss his future, but insists his sole focus remains on returning from a foot injury.
Murphy was coy when asked about his contract talks on Monday, with speculation mounting over whether the unrestricted free agent could depart the Blues at season's end.
The two-time best and fairest winner is into his sixth year as Carlton skipper, but has featured just once since round three due to a plantar fascia injury in his foot.
It's therefore unlikely the 30-year-old will make a decision on his future before returning to the field, which he hopes to do at some stage over the next fortnight.
"I just had a brief chat to my manager then," Murphy said.
"I'll catch up with him at some stage this week, but it's about me trying to get back playing football first of all. I'll go from there."
Carlton was held goalless to half-time on Saturday in arguably its most disappointing performance of the season, ultimately losing to Fremantle by 57 points.
The result saw the Blues slump to 1-11 this year, with the club anchored to the bottom of the ladder at the halfway point of the season.
However, Murphy said results like the one at Etihad Stadium over the weekend won't play into his decision-making process when he sits down to determine his future.
"Not at all," Murphy said.
"I'm here to lead this footy club. It's a really important week for us to make sure we show the right response and, more importantly for our fans, to make sure they feel we're playing for them."
Murphy is Carlton's reigning best and fairest winner, but has seen his 2017 season sandwiched between two years plagued by injury.
However, the club is hopeful he will return to the field over the next fortnight.
"I've got a solid week on the track this week," Murphy said.
"It's just about trying to get enough flow through the body. Hopefully it gives me a chance to play next week."
