WESTERN Bulldogs forward Isabel Huntington is maintaining a positive outlook as she recovers from a season-ending knee injury.
Huntington, who had surgery 12 days ago to repair a torn ACL in her right knee, said she has had plenty of support from her family and teammates as she starts another long recovery period. She had reconstructive surgery on her left knee in 2016 and previously broke her right leg.
"When you’ve had bad circumstances like this, you’ve got to milk it a little. I’ve had the family on hand to do all the nursing for me," she jokingly told co-hosts Nat Edwards and Sarah Black on this week’s episode of Trail Blazers, the official AFLW podcast.
"We do have a packet of Tim Tams in the fridge that I’ve been secretly tucking into."
The 19-year-old Huntington, No.1 pick in last year’s NAB AFLW Draft, backed her teammates to continue their strong season against Greater Western Sydney’s in-form tall forwards in Canberra on Saturday.
"We’ve got a pretty solid backline. We have some height in [Lauren] Spark, and a few other players, and we’ve got Aasta [O’Connor] who can go down back and provide height," she said.
"[The Giants] are a very tough side, but we’ll play the footy we’ve been playing."
Other guests on this week’s episode of Trail Blazers were Brisbane defender Kate Lutkins, who has been a pillar in the Lions’ defence this season, and Melbourne’s Tegan Cunningham, who explained how she pulled up after a nasty head clash with Lion Nicole Hildebrand.
