GRASSROOTS facilities across Victoria are set for major upgrades as part of the $241.6million of investment in community sport. 

Ballarat has been guaranteed two AFL games a year for the next decade and Geelong a minimum of eight AFL games a season for the next 30 years.

$500m MEGA-DEAL: Victoria's big plans

Among the highlights of the Daniel Andrews' Labor government announcement:

- $20million to redevelop Ikon Park into the home of women's football
- A further $15million for the Female Friendly Facilities Fund
- $13million for Stage 2 of the Moorabbin Oval redevelopment, to build a range of community facilities and deliver upgrades that will enable the Saints' AFLW team to play there from 2020
- $10million to improve playing conditions at Casey Fields and Whitten Oval for AFLW competition
- $2million for infrastructure upgrades for AFLW at Victoria Park
- $15.4million will upgrade key suburban sporting precincts, including Albert Park, Yarra Bend, Jells Park, Olinda Precinct and Ryan's Reserve. 

It follows Thursday night's revelation of a $225million deal with the AFL that will deliver a major upgrade of the Etihad Stadium precinct and security for the MCG to go ahead with a redevelopment of the Great Southern Stand, that's to guarantee the Grand Final will be held there until 2057.

In total there is almost $500million of investment in Victorian sport from an elite to grassroots level.

The money is set to be included in the upcoming Victorian budget.

"This is the biggest investment in women's and community sport in Victoria's history – upgrading local grounds, changerooms and facilities across the state," premier Andrews said.

"Women have been making do with substandard facilities to play the sports they love for far too long – that ends today."

Victorian sports minister John Eren hailed the investment as a victory for women's sport.

"We're backing women's sport at every level – from the grassroots clubs to elite football and netball," the minister said.

"Whether you play sport for a living or just for fun – we're investing in the facilities Victorian's need to get involved, get active and win."
