THE WESTERN Bulldogs look set to regain star midfielder Jack Macrae from a hamstring injury for Saturday's clash with Melbourne at the MCG.
Macrae was in career-best form when he injured his hamstring against Port Adelaide in round 13, but the ball magnet will play if he gets through training this week.
The 23-year-old was averaging 31 disposals and six tackles a game before his mishap.
Bulldogs medical services manager Chris Bell said the signs were positive that Macrae would be available.
"He completed a really good footy session on the weekend and he's due to return to full training this week," Bell told westernbulldogs.com.au.
"If he ticks off our final measures this week he'll return to playing this weekend."
Utility Lukas Webb is also a chance to return from a thumb injury picked up in the loss to the Power.
"We've been really conservative in the management of Lukas following his thumb fracture," Bell said.
"The thumb's now fully healed and he comes back into full training this week. If he gets through training as we expect he'll play this weekend."
While Macrae and Webb are near certainties to resume, impressive draftee Aaron Naughton is in doubt to face the Demons after injuring his ankle in the loss to Hawthorn on the weekend.
It's the second time the 18-year-old has been struck down by an ankle complaint this season.
"He went to take off in a contest and got his boot caught on the back of his opponents heal and it rolled his ankle out," Bell said.
"He's come in really well today and we're going to work hard to aggressively rehabilitate him from the injury, and we'll make a decision on his return to play plan later this week."
