1. Sandi in strife?
Fremantle could be without ruckman Aaron Sandilands for the clash with Greater Western Sydney in Canberra after he was booked for rough conduct. Sandilands collected an unsuspecting Jarryd Lyons during the third term and the contact looked high and reasonably firm. It was doubly painful for the Dockers with the resultant downfield free kick ending in a goal to Gold Coast. One positive for Sandi came later in the term when he out-marked Steven May and booted just his second goal since 2015. Youngster Mitch Crowden’s off-the-ball clash with Aaron Hall will also be scrutinised. Hall went down for some time but played out the match.

2. Another blow for unfortunate Sun
The luck of the Irish certainly deserted Pearce Hanley at Optus Stadium on Saturday afternoon. Hanley was playing his first game of the year after dislocating his shoulder in the pre-season. But he didn’t even make it to half-time, doing the shoulder again during a relatively tame clash in the midfield in the second quarter. He didn’t have surgery last time but the Suns may have to look at that option this time around.

3. The Fyfe show continues
New Sun Nick Holman had the big job on Nat Fyfe early on but that didn’t last long as the Fremantle skipper waltzed to 21 possessions at half time. And Fyfe wasn’t finished there, inspiring a third-quarter fightback after the home side fell behind by eight points early in the second half. Fyfe booted one goal himself, handed another to Michael Walters on a platter and in the flash of an eye the Dockers had jumped 19 points clear. He ended with 38 possessions, 15 clearances and eight tackles. Fyfe’s main competition for the three Brownlow votes probably came from the other side in young gun Jack Martin (21 touches, six marks) whose class continues to shine through, while Lyons was a monster for the Suns with 30 disposals, 10 tackles and two goals.

4. Welcome back, Weller
Former Docker Lachie Weller had a slow start in his homecoming before getting more involved in the second term. The Suns gave Weller a big deal, handed Freo the pick No.2 in the national draft to get him and will be looking for a solid return on the investment. Weller was booed by the Purple Army when he got his first kick but they seemed to forget about him after that. He had some good moments but also a costly fumble late in the third term which seemed to remind the Dockers fans he was still out there. West Australian David Swallow was much better in his 100th AFL game.

5. Free agent goes from chocolates to boiled lollies
Tom Lynch was sensational with eight goals in round two but became the latest notch on the belt of Freo key defender Alex Pearce. Lynch’s only goal of the day came via a relayed free kick after Sandilands was reported. It was just the second goal Pearce had had kicked on him this season. Port Adelaide’s Charlie Dixon booted one on him in round one and the young Docker held Essendon’s Joe Daniher goalless in round two.
