ANGUS Brayshaw concedes he struggled with his omission from Melbourne's senior team at first, but has moved on to wholeheartedly support his teammates while he tries to force his way back in.
Brayshaw was a standout player in VFL affiliate Casey's 107-point victory over Coburg on Sunday, gathering 22 disposals and kicking one goal in the rout.
The Demon looked a class above at that level on Sunday, with his composure under pressure, and his attack on both the ball and the opposition featuring in a near-complete midfield performance.
Brayshaw told AFL.com.au's AFL Exchange podcast that it was important to remain patient as he looks to force his way back into the team.
"It's very hard to make the distinction between being selfish in that you want to be the best player that you can be, and you want to win games and make everyone, yourself and your family proud versus at the same time you see all the work that everyone does and being genuinely happy for others because ultimately you're on the same journey," Brayshaw said.
"I think I've got the balance right. I was really disappointed about (not being selected in) round one and struggled in the first couple of days after but a week's a long time in footy and there's always something to go to and move on to.
"I would love to be playing in the AFL and I'm on the right track, I think, and I've been getting good feedback from the coaches so I'm ready to step up when I'm needed."
