GOLD Coast will almost certainly welcome back co-captain Steven May for Saturday night's clash against Collingwood, with the Suns fullback just needing to get through main training on Wednesday night.
May has missed the past three matches with an ankle injury suffered in round 11 but has now returned to full health.
Gold Coast coach Stuart Dew said he had no hesitation recalling his best defender against the multi-dimensional Magpies forward line.
"We're anticipating he's available for selection," Dew said.
"I'm looking forward to a good session tonight and look forward to putting his magnet back on the board.
"He played on Robbie Gray and I understand him coming back from what he has, but he's really ticked off the agility.
"If he's out there he'll be really handy to play on the talls and smalls and he enjoys that challenge."
May's sidekick Rory Thompson is also expected to make a return from the hamstring injury that kept him out of last weekend's loss against Hawthorn.
Thompson would be the ideal match-up for towering Magpie Mason Cox, while May and the rest of the Suns defence could raffle Jaidyn Stephenson, Will Hoskin-Elliott, Jordan de Goey and co.
Dew said while he respected the opposition forwards, he didn't fear them.
"They're tough to match up on," Dew said.
"Even within pre-season and training we get our guys to play on tall and small. Jesse Joyce has played tall and even Charlie Ballard a little bit last week got some good experience on (Jack) Gunston and (Jarryd) Roughead.
"It adds to the flexibility. We don't want to get too rigid in our match-ups because then you can get wheeled around a little bit."
Of even more concern for Dew has been his team's midfield, routinely beaten in their eight-game losing streak.
It was Hawthorn's outside run and superior polish that accounted for the Suns last week, and that problem looms even larger against Nathan Buckley's red-hot Pies.
"We've got to get our decisions right, when to go in and when to stay out," Dew said.
"A lot of our clips on Monday we had three or four on the inside and no cover on the outside.
"In terms of it being a worry, obviously Collingwood are really impressive in that regard and we have to get our balance right and guys making those decisions of when to impact and when to cover."
Dew said Sam Day would likely miss at least a couple of weeks with a shoulder injury.
