DESPITE Geelong's decorated midfield, Gold Coast coach Stuart Dew says there's no certainty Touk Miller will be assigned a tagging role on Saturday.

Miller battled Brisbane skipper Dayne Zorko to a stalemate in last round's QClash, keeping the All Australian to 17 disposals.

However, Dew said although the Cats had plenty of players to choose from, he didn't want to pigeonhole Miller in the run-with role.

"We'll have a look," Dew said.

"We've asked him to do those roles sporadically through the year, challenge him in different ways, and I think the Zorko one was an important one.

"I thought he was disciplined and played hard and fair, and we know he does that and gives good effort all the time.

"We're certainly aware of where their danger lies, and we don't want to get too hung up on one or two players."

The midfield of Patrick Dangerfield, Joel Selwood, Tim Kelly and former Gold Coast skipper Gary Ablett is star-studded, and torched the Suns in an 85-point win when the teams met in round 11.

Ablett had 37 disposals and kicked three goals that night.

Geelong is potentially in a must-win situation to lock in its top-eight position but Dew said he was primarily focusing on how Gold Coast performed.

"Geelong have to win … Port will put pressure on them, maybe, on Friday night.

"It's interesting the last round with those side things happening.

"We've tried to narrow our guys' focus with good habits. We've won away a few times. This will be a big ask down there and they're in form.

"We're going down there to give our best and you never know, you never know."
