FOR THE second straight season, the all-time season attendance record has been broken.
In the lead-up to Saturday's clash between Fremantle and Collingwood at Optus Stadium, last year's number of 6,732,601 was broken.
At that stage, there were five home and away games left in 2018.
AFL CEO Gillon McLachlan thanked those who have gone to matches.
"Regardless of the team they support, our fans embraced the highly competitive and unpredictable season," McLachlan said
"The game will always be for the fans, and we are extremely proud of them in breaking this record."
