COLLINGWOOD player Brayden Sier has been hit with a suspended $5000 fine for betting on AFL matches and events.

A number of bets, totalling less than $50 combined, were placed during the 2017 season. 

While the AFL didn't specify, events can include the Brownlow Medal or NAB AFL Rising Star, among others. 

AFL general counsel Andrew Dillon said none of the bets involved Collingwood. 

The matter came to light as part of the AFL integrity department's regular checks of betting accounts.

"Mr Dillon said the player’s remorse and full co-operation during the investigation had been taken into account, along with the size of the wagers, and his sanction had therefore been suspended for a two-year period," the AFL said in a statement.

"The AFL continues to conduct regular integrity checks with all wagering partners on all players, coaches, administrators across the AFL competition as part its regulations in this area." 

Sier, 20, was recruited by Collingwood with pick No.32 in the 2015 NAB AFL Draft. 

He has not played a senior game for the Magpies.
