GEELONG defender Jed Bews has agreed to extend his career with the Cats until the end of 2019.
The 23-year-old confirmed he had come to terms with the club on Geelong radio station K-Rock on Wednesday ahead of his second consecutive preliminary final.
Bews will play his 50th game on Friday night, having cemented his spot in Geelong's defence this season.
He was the Cats' best player in round 18 when Geelong lost to Adelaide and expects to once again confront Crows superstar Eddie Betts in the preliminary final.
"I'll spend a bit of time through him," Bews said.
"It's good the way we play – we try to help each other as much as we can in defence, so there will probably be couple of guys who will go through him."
Geelong coach Chris Scott praised Bews, the son of Cats champion Andrew Bews, on Wednesday for the progress he had made this season.
"He's really developed as a player," he said.
"He's almost that stereotypical young athlete who hasn't played much footy before he got into the system, who was a bit raw and rough around the edges in some respects, that with experience, (and) good coaching from our development guys, has really come on.
"He's an important part of our team. I'm really pleased to hear he's committed to the club."
Bews did not play his first game for the season until round six but he has only missed one match since, the Crows' loss to Geelong in round 11.
He told the radio station the Cats knew it was going to be a tough encounter against Adelaide.
"We think that our best can beat anyone, but with the competition being so even if you're slightly off you'll get beaten by anyone," Bews said.
