HAWTHORN has reacted savagely to its round one loss to Essendon, dumping Taylor Duryea, Ryan Schoenmakers, Billy Hartung and James Sicily for Saturday's clash against Adelaide at the MCG.
Former captain Luke Hodge makes a timely return for the Hawks after he missed last week's game against the Bombers for not informing the club about why he had missed a pre-season training session.
The Hawks have promoted youngsters Teia Miles, who will make his debut, Ryan Burton and Kade Stewart for the game, with coach Alastair Clarkson clearly unimpressed with the output of his senior players last week.
Duryea (23 games), Hartung (18) and Sicily (22) were all permanent fixtures in the Hawks' side in 2016, and the experienced Schoenmakers has played 102 games since 2009.
Adelaide skipper Taylor Walker makes his return after shaking off a hamstring injury, with the Crows leaving out forward Troy Menzel following their 56-point demolition of Greater Western Sydney last Sunday.
Sydney will have three debutants for its Grand Final rematch against the Western Bulldogs at Etihad Stadium on Friday night.
Eight of the Swans players who appeared in last year's decider are missing, with Nic Newman, Will Hayward and Robbie Fox to play their first games for the club.
Those missing Swans are Tom Mitchell (now at Hawthorn), Dane Rampe (broken arm), Isaac Heeney (glandular fever), Tom Papley (knee), Ben McGlynn (retired), Jarrad McVeigh (calf), Gary Rohan (back) and Xavier Richards (delisted).
Hayward, pick No.21 in last year's NAB AFL Draft, is a highly-rated forward, Newman averaged 28 disposals in the NEAFL last year and Fox, who played with Coburg in the VFL last year, was promoted to the senior list earlier on Thursday.
The Bulldogs' ruck depth has been boosted with Tom Campbell coming back into the team after overcoming an ankle injury.
Versatile defender Marcus Adams will attempt to replace the experience and guile of Dale Morris (broken leg), while Toby McLean has been omitted.
As expected, Greater Western Sydney has recalled second-year midfielder Jacob Hopper and running defender Nathan Wilson after its shock loss to Adelaide last weekend.
Veteran midfielder Tendai Mzungu (hamstring) and youngster Matt Kennedy make way as the Giants attempt to get their season back on track.
Talented Gold Coast midfielder David Swallow will play his first match since round 15, 2015, against the Giants. Swallow's career has been wrecked by a chronic knee problem over the past two seasons.
Jack Leslie also comes into the team, with Pearce Hanley, who has returned to Ireland for family reasons, and Josh Schoenfeld out.
Brisbane Lions recruit Jack Frost will play his first game for his new club against Essendon at what is expected to be a rain-soaked Gabba on Saturday night.
Frost was suspended in the JLT Community Series, and will replace young midfielder Ben Keays.
The Bombers have made one change to their side, with experienced Bomber Ben Howlett replacing Josh Green (hamstring).
St Kilda will welcome back veteran defender Leigh Montagna and boom youngster Paddy McCartin for Saturday night's contest against West Coast in Perth.
Montagna, returning from a calf injury, and McCartin, who kicked three goals in the first-half of a VFL practice match last weekend, are key inclusions for the Saints.
Blake Acres is also back in the fold, with Nick Riewoldt (knee), David Armitage (groin) and Nathan Wright the omisssions.
West Coast has lost Drew Petrie (hand), Eric McKenzie (soreness) and Lewis Jetta (glute), bringing in Jonathan Giles, Dom Sheed and Tom Barrass.
North Melbourne midfielder Ben Cunnington will play his first game for the season against Geelong at Etihad Stadium on Sunday after serving his JLT Community Series suspension in round one.
Cunnington will replace forward Jarrad Waite (shoulder) in the team, with Majak Daw, Aaron Mullett and Taylor Garner included in an extended squad.
The Cats have picked Zac Smith, Jed Bews, Sam Menegola (last week's travelling emergency) and Jed Bews on an extended interchange bench, with one of those players set to replace Nakia Cockatoo (broken thumb).
Melbourne's Dom Tyson and Dean Kent have been named for their first game of the season against Carlton at the MCG on Sunday.
The Demons have also picked Jake Spencer, Ben Kennedy and James Harmes in an extended squad, with Bernie Vince (suspension) and Joel Smith (shoulder) to miss.
Carlton has included Sam Kerridge, Nick Graham and Harry McKay for the game, with no omissions announced at this time. McKay is in line to make his debut.
Port Adelaide and Fremantle are yet to name any outs from their squads for their showdown at Adelaide Oval on Sunday.
The Power have included Jarman Impey for what would be his first game of the year after serving a club-imposed suspension, and potential debutants Joe Atley and Willem Drew.
The Dockers have picked Tommy Sheridan, Matt Taberner and Ethan Hughes.
