1. Is Fyfe in some strife?
Nat Fyfe led like a demon during the Dockers three-game surge to the brink of the top eight but Fremantle might have a nervous wait to see if the Brownlow medallist plays against the Bombers next Sunday. Fyfe started well in Freo’s Derby loss but cut a frustrated figure when he swung an elbow into Elliot Yeo’s face with such force that the Eagle stayed down for a minute or so early in the last term. That would suggest the impact was pretty hard and Fyfe’s Brownlow could hinge on how the Match Review Panel views the incident.

2. The Mitchell factor proves crucial 
He missed last week’s MCG flogging from the Hawks but Sam Mitchell was back in blue and gold for his first Western Derby. He had to wait until his 312th game to finally play in one and it didn’t take him long to make a difference, winning three centre clearances in the opening term as the Eagles opened up a six-goal lead. He looked ginger at times with his sore ankle but still managed to be where the ball often was, collecting 28 disposals and 10 clearances.

3. Docker goes from hero to zero
What's going on with Michael Walters? Playing his 100th game in the Derby, Walters just couldn't get near it again. The previous week he was held goalless and to just nine possessions against North Melbourne and has only kicked five goals for the season, three of them in a match-winning burst against the Western Bulldogs in round three. A player of rare talent and now a leader at Freo, he needed to produce more than his seven disposals and zero tackles to three-quarter time. Coach Ross Lyon admitted he injured his ankle a couple of weeks ago but said it didn't affect him in the Derby. "He didn't look injured in the last quarter. You wouldn't want to be a small forward when there's no crumb. I mean there's always fake news, but there's not fake news with Michael," Lyon said. "He's had a bit of an ankle he's working through it." At the other end of the scale was a fourth impressive game in a row from 21-year-old Connor Blakely, who complemented his early tagging job on Luke Shuey with 30 possessions, including five clearances.

4. Big Mac with the lot
Jeremy McGovern’s intercept and pack marking is a thing of beauty, unless you’re on the opposing team. By half-time he was on record pace with seven intercept marks and two contested grabs. He couldn’t quite get to Daniel Talia’s record 10 intercept marks, ending with eight, but he had a profound impact on the result. A country footballer with a smart head on his shoulders, McGovern is a superb reader of the play who would get a game in any team in the League, a true test of how good a player is. 

5. Giant milestone falls flat
Goliath Aaron Sandilands became the third Docker to reach the 250-game milestone. And such was the respect the Eagles held for the respected ruckman that they brought in Jonathan Giles to partner Nathan Vardy. Giles, in particular, threw plenty at Sandi’s 211cm, 118kg frame but the big Docker dominated with 52 hit-outs. It helped Freo almost break even in the clearances (35-39) but unfortunately didn’t avoid a personal losing milestone. On the other side, Kurt Mutimer made his debut, starting at half-forward for West Coast and tasting victory first up. Tackling was the highlight for the Melburnian teen, ending with a creditable tally of four.
