SYDNEY'S battered ruck stocks will get a much-needed boost this week and it couldn't come at a better time ahead of a crunch clash with aggressive Giant Shane Mumford.

The Swans are 0-4 after four rounds and injuries to their No.1 ruck combination in Sam Naismith (knee) and Kurt Tippett (ankle), along with promising mature-age draftee Darcy Cameron (finger and shoulder), haven't helped coach John Longmire, who has always made no secret of the fact that a deep big man brigade is vital for his list.

Naismith is the biggest concern for the Swans after he suffered a medial ligament strain in his left knee in a freak accident at the club's closed training session last week.

The 24-year-old, who has struggled with long-term injuries in the past, has his knee in a brace, and Swans general manager of football Tom Harley told sydneyswans.com.au that the promising tall is set to miss at least another three games.

"Sam unfortunately hurt his knee in the final training session before we boarded the flight to Perth, and obviously didn't play (against the Eagles)," he said.

"It was an innocuous training drill, he was doing some stoppage work with the midfielders and one of the players fell across his knee.

"It's not a disastrous one by any stretch, but he's in the recovery phase now and won't play this week, and will probably miss another couple after that.

"It's clearly disappointing to have a player injure themselves at training."

Tippett just failed to prove his fitness last week, but trained solidly on Tuesday and is certain to return from an ankle injury against Greater Western Sydney on Saturday, giving Callum Sinclair some much-needed support against Mumford and Rory Lobb after he had to go one-out against West Coast.

Cameron is also a chance to be fit to play in the reserves after he missed his chance to debut in round four with a shoulder injury he picked up in the NEAFL the week before, and trained with his right shoulder strapped at the team's main session on Tuesday.
