Ben Reid is a huge out for up to a month with a quad injury, but Adam Treloar has overcome an ankle problem. Travis Varcoe has been ruled out for "a couple of weeks" due to suffering a setback at training. Tim Broomhead's hopes of an immediate return were hit by a bout of concussion in the VFL. Patrick Ambrose is recovering quicker than expected from the quad strain he suffered at training a few weeks ago, and could return against Richmond in round 10. His absence in the back half has been felt by the Bombers. Shaun McKernan injured his hand at VFL level so will sit out a couple of weeks, but the Bombers have been able to maintain a relatively healthy list in recent weeks. David Zaharakis copped a knock to the throat in last week’s win over Geelong but will play against West Coast on Sunday. - Callum Twomey

The news of Jesse Hogan's cancer diagnosis shocked the football world, but thankfully the prognosis is a positive one. The star forward could return to football within 4-8 weeks, depending on his recovery. In-form defender Jayde Hunt will be put through the concussion protocol after he was knocked out in a collision with Crow Sam Jacobs. Trent Dumont will miss this week due to concussion. Jy Simpkin's impressive debut season is on hold after hurting his shoulder in Sunday's loss to Sydney. But the good news is the Kangaroos will regain spearhead Jarrad Waite (suspension) and potentially defender Aaron Mullett and forward Taylor Garner if they pass fitness tests. Ben Jacobs (foot) resumed last week for Werribee in the VFL development league and is likely to spend an extended stint in the state league to regain match fitness. - Marc McGowan

Dan Butler pulled up with groin soreness out of the Fremantle clash in the Tigers' only fresh injury from round nine. Reece Conca has suffered a setback, however, with recent scans showing his foot injury had not improved, requiring an extended period on the sidelines. Dion Prestia has trained with the main group this week and appears over his hamstring soreness. Jack Graham's prognosis has not improved in the past week, but he was part of a group running laps on Thursday with Shaun Hampson, Nick Vlastuin and Ben Griffiths. – Nathan Schmook

Jarrad McVeigh's low-grade hamstring strain will keep him out of this week's clash and with his history of soft tissue injuries, you'd think he might struggle to get up for Friday week's game against Hawthorn at the SCG. Kieren Jack was close but will continue to work on his hip strength and also push to play the Hawks. It was only three weeks ago that the Eagles were facing an injury crisis with 13 players on the sidelines. Jamie Cripps has recovered about a month faster than expected from his nasty ankle sprain and will return against Essendon. Drew Petrie trained without restriction on Monday, marking the ball cleanly and practicing ruck hit-outs, while Scott Lycett joined in skills drills and will ramp up his workload in coming weeks. Simon Tunbridge is aiming for a round 15 return after rejoining training following a hybrid-LARS knee reconstruction in December. - Travis King
