WEST Coast's already depleted ruck stocks have suffered a further setback, with veteran recruit Drew Petrie set to miss several weeks with a fractured hand.
The 34-year-old injured his left hand early in the first quarter against his former side North Melbourne while attempting to tackle Kangaroo Luke McDonald, but battled manfully through the pain after receiving treatment.
Petrie requires surgery and will now join fellow ruckmen Nic Naitanui (knee) and Scott Lycett (shoulder) on the sidelines, with recruit Nathan Vardy left to shoulder much of the ruck duties.
The injury to Petrie forced the Eagles to withdraw Jonathan Giles from WAFL affiliate East Perth's squad ahead of Sunday's clash with West Perth.
Western Bulldogs defender Dale Morris is facing an extended stint on the sidelines after injuring his right leg in the closing seconds of Friday night's win over Collingwood.
The 34-year-old's knee and ankle seemed to twist under him as he fell to ground after colliding into Magpie Will Hoskin-Elliott.

Morris broke both the tibia and fibula bones in his lower right leg in round 21, 2011, and courageously played last year's final series with fractured vertebrae.
Greater Western Sydney recruit Tendai Mzungu left the ground with a left hamstring injury during the second quarter against Adelaide, capping a forgettable debut since crossing over from Fremantle.
Giants coach Leon Cameron has ruled Mzungu out of Saturday's clash against Gold Coast, with scans in the coming days to reveal the full extent of the 31-year-old's injury.

St Kilda has confirmed that Nick Riewoldt's right knee injury is not as bad as initially feared, but the club is yet to reveal an accurate timeframe for his recovery.
In a statement, the club said the injury would "take a few weeks to settle".
The 34-year-old was a disconsolate figure as he was taken from the ground on a stretcher late in the final quarter against Melbourne.
Riewoldt initially feared he had ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament after hyperextending his knee in the marking contest and hearing a 'pop'.
Speaking on Sunday, Riewoldt said the once maligned Etihad Stadium surface played no part in his serious-looking injury.
"At that part of the ground … there was no fresh turf there," Riewoldt said.
"I've played a lot of games at Etihad and I love playing at Etihad. (I) absolutely can rule that out as a cause."

In his first career game, Melbourne rookie defender Joel Smith suffered a dislocated left shoulder in the first quarter of Saturday's win over St Kilda and will miss an extended period.
The 21-year-old, who picked up the injury after Riewoldt fell on him in a contest near the boundary line, was assisted from the ground and sat out the rest of the game with his arm in a sling.
Sydney midfielder Dan Robinson suffered a left shoulder injury just before half-time against Port Adelaide after colliding into Power defender Matthew Broadbent in a contest at ground level, and took no part in the second half.
The 22-year-old had a luckless run with injury last season after having surgery to repair a dislocated shoulder he picked up against Essendon in round seven, which kept him out of the senior squad for the rest of 2016.
In other injury concerns in round one:
- Adelaide forward Mitch McGovern tweaked his ankle in a collision with teammate Troy Menzel late in the win against GWS. The club says the 22-year-old will be assessed over the course of the week.
- GWS key forward Jonathon Patton picked up a hip complaint during the second half against Adelaide and will be monitored during the week.
- Carlton swingman Jacob Weitering suffered a left hip complaint in the first term against Richmond in a contest against Tiger Alex Rance. Weitering received treatment on separate occasions, but was able to return and have an impact.
- Melbourne ruckman Max Gawn was assessed in the rooms in the second quarter for a back complaint, but returned to the field after having the injury re-taped.
- St Kilda midfielder Jack Newnes received medical attention on his left wrist just before half-time after colliding into teammate Sebastian Ross in a friendly fire incident.
- Hawthorn forward Cyril Rioli received a knock to his thigh in the opening term against Essendon, but managed to play out the match. Hawks coach Alastair Clarkson said Rioli "should be fine" to play next week.
- Collingwood vice-captain Steele Sidebottom pulled up sharply as he handballed the ball in the last play of the game against the Western Bulldogs.
- Essendon defender Mark Baguley pulled up lame in the final quarter with a right ankle complaint after being pushed off the ball by Hawk Paul Puopolo. Baguley was assessed on the bench, but returned soon after.
