The AFL wishes to advise the Match Review Panel has reviewed the matches played in Round 23 of the 2017 Toyota AFL Premiership Season. The following charges were laid:
Charges Laid:
Dylan Grimes, Richmond, has been charged with engaging in rough conduct against Josh Bruce, St Kilda, during the second quarter of the Round 23 match between Richmond and St Kilda, played at the MCG on Sunday August 27, 2017.
In summary, he can accept a $1000 sanction with an early plea.
Based on the available video evidence and a medical report from the St Kilda Football Club, the incident was assessed as careless conduct with low impact to the head. The incident was classified as a $1500 sanction. The player has no applicable record with impacts the penalty. An early plea enables the player to accept a $1000 sanction.
Other incidents assessed
Contact between Hawthorn’s Blake Hardwick and the Western Bulldogs’ Marcus Bontempelli from the second quarter of Friday’s match was assessed. After viewing all available footage, the panel said that Hardwick grabbed player Bontempelli by the jumper and shook him. There was no strike to the head/neck region, but a free kick was paid at the time for the action. It was the view of the panel no further action was required, from the on-field decision that was paid.
Contact between the Sydney Swans’ Heath Grundy and Carlton’s Levi Casboult from the first quarter of Saturday’s match was assessed. Casboult was seeking to lead for a team mate further up the field and looking to make space away from his opponent Grundy. As Casboult changed direction, he looked to engage his opponent and the pair made contact, with Grundy bracing for the contact. Casboult went to ground but it was the view of the panel the Sydney player’s actions were not unreasonable in the circumstances. No further action was taken.
