GEELONG is on the verge of re-signing exciting youngsters Nakia Cockatoo and Brandan Parfitt until the end of 2019.
Cockatoo, the Cats' first selection in the 2014 NAB AFL Draft at pick No.10, was due to come out of contract at the end of this season, but is about to recommit to the Cats, most likely on a two-year deal.
Parfitt, Geelong's first pick in last year's draft at No.26, is contracted until the end of 2018, but is close to agreeing to a one-year extension.
The pair's manager, Tim Lawrence of Stride Sports, told AFL.com.au his clients' negotiations with the Cats were almost complete.
"We're just dotting the i's and crossing the t's at the moment. I fully expect we'll get something done sooner rather than later," Lawrence said.
"Nakia and Brandan both love it down at Geelong, so there were no issues about them re-signing with the club."
One of Geelong's quickest players, 186cm Cockatoo is an explosive line-breaker who has spent most of his 29 AFL games in attack, but is expected to eventually graduate into the midfield.
The 20-year-old has played eight games this season – the three matches he missed were due to hand and hamstring injuries – and kicked six goals, while averaging four tackles a match.
Parfitt, 18, quickly made an impression at Geelong last summer and earnt a round one debut against Fremantle.
The small forward held his spot for the first six rounds before suffering a hamstring injury against Collingwood that is expected to sideline him for another 5-7 weeks.
Parfitt's class and composure ensured he looked at home at senior level, with his outstanding performance against Melbourne (23 possessions, one goal, two goal assists and five tackles) rewarded with the round three NAB AFL Rising Star nomination.
