CARLTON has announced that Cain Liddle will replace Steven Trigg as the club's CEO. 

Liddle will finish up as Richmond's chief customer officer and join the Blues on Monday after seven years with the Tigers.

Former AFL operations manager, Simon Lethlean, had been strongly linked to the vacant role, but the Blues elected to go with Liddle instead.

"Cain brings a wealth of commercial and consumer experience and we believe he is the ideal candidate that will be integral in leading the club to its next level of success," Carlton president Mark LoGiudice said.

Liddle was appointed by a selection panel that included LoGiudice, and club directors Kate Jenkins and Chris Judd.

With his start date slated for Monday, Liddle said he was pleased to head to a club with a "very exciting future".

"To be given the opportunity to work with such a talented team both on and off the field, who are united in their determination to deliver Carlton members sustained success across both the male and female competitions, is an opportunity for which I am extremely grateful," Liddle said.

The Tigers were quick to congraulate their departing executive.

"Cain has made an outstanding contribution to our club and we congratulate him on his appointment," Richmond CEO Brendon Gale said.

"He has had aspirations to move into a CEO role and it is a great credit to him that he has been recognised for his business acumen, innovation and leadership."

Trigg resigned early in October after three seasons with the Blues.

Liddle played four games for Geelong in 1994, and spent eight years as an assistant coach with the Calder Cannons and Vic Metro.

He is the latest in a line of recent club CEO changes with Hawthorn recently appointing Justin Reeves from a different role at Geelong, and the Western Bulldogs snaring former St Kilda official Ameet Bains.

Collingwood is still searching to fill its vacant role after the mid-season resignation of Gary Pert.
