JOHN Worsfold and Jobe Watson are yet to discuss the Essendon captaincy, with the Bombers' first game in the JLT Community Series just weeks away.
Watson was Essendon skipper before being one of the 34 past and present players banned by the Court of Arbitration for Sport due to the club's 2012 supplements program.
Watson has returned to Essendon to play in 2017 but there is no certainty he will resume as captain.
"I haven't been interested in asking Jobe that question at all and I don't think he has been that interested in talking about it," Worsfold told SEN Radio.
"I'm sure he has thought about it and I'm sure he has got an opinion and at the right time we'll sit down and start to work through that."
Watson lost the 2012 Brownlow Medal due to the CAS ruling and admitted he grappled with his decision to return.
Worsfold said the club was yet to go through a process involving players, the match committee and the Bombers' board to select a captain.
The captaincy question was just one of many to be answered as the club welcomed back 10 suspended players to resume in 2017.
Worsfold was confident the club was moving in the right direction but conceded no-one was sure how long it would take before the team was functioning at its best.
"I have got no doubt we can pull this group together," Worsfold said.
He said the players who emerged last season in the absence of more senior teammates were aware competition for spots was hot but they were positive about what that meant.
"They're relishing the chance to train at a higher level with all the guys back," Worsfold said.
