BRISBANE Lions fans are resigned to their team earning its first wooden spoon in nearly 20 years.

Giving their mid-season verdict on the Lions in an AFL.com.au survey, 85 per cent of fans tipped the Lions to finish the season anchored to the bottom of the ladder.

But faith is high in new coach Chris Fagan, with 92 per cent of fans happy with Fagan's work at the helm of the struggling club.

When asked what would constitute a good year for the Lions, many fans singled out halting the exodus of young talent from the Gabba.

Signing Josh Schache to a new deal is therefore likely to be seen as one of the club's major achievements this season. Fans also called for AFL support for the side's efforts to retain its players, while recruiting capable defenders was also identified as a priority.

Here are the full survey results, plus a selection of Lions fans' views.

It'll be a good year for the Lions if ...

Josh Schache finds form, Eric Hipwood kicks four goals and we win two or three more games.
- Steve Guerin, Rockhampton Qld

The recruiting staff recognises two capable backmen and drafts them accordingly.
- Peter Luff, Bundoora Vic

We win two more games, see real progression from our young players and a percentage of 65+.
- Justin Lillecrapp, Beerwah Qld

Dayne Zorko, Eric Hipwood, Hugh McCluggage, Dayne Beams, Harris Andrews, Jake Barrett and Ben Keays finish the season injury free.
- Tony Zabuan, Caboolture Qld

The Lions get retention allowances, priority picks (multiple) and changes to rookie contracts. Until that happens, we won't be competitive.
- Marty Preston, Brisbane Qld

We are able to keep all our good young players from leaving the Lions and stick it out for the long haul like the club members have.
- Gail Alice Webster, Toowoomba Qld
