THE WESTERN Bulldogs' bid to return to the finals series suffered a blow with enigmatic forward Jake Stringer set to miss up to three weeks with a hamstring injury.

Stringer, 23, injured his left hamstring in the second quarter of the 20-point win against Carlton at the MCG on Sunday and didn't return to the game.

"We've assessed Jake today (Monday) and can confirm he does have a hamstring strain," head physiotherapist Chris Bell told westernbulldogs.com.au.

"We’re going to put a structure around Jake but at this stage, we imagine he will miss the next two-to-three games of football."

The Dogs are in 11th spot on the ladder with an 8-8 record.

Veteran Matthew Boyd missed that clash with Achilles soreness and Bell said the backman would be tested.

"Matthew Boyd pulled up with some Achilles soreness following the heavy, wet deck in Adelaide," Bell said.

"He's continued to improve this week and we'll wait to the back end of this week to make a decision on his availability."

However, coach Luke Beveridge contradicted that when he spoke last Saturday before the match against the Blues, when asked how long Boyd would be out for.

"Probably this (week) and another one, I'd say," Beveridge said.

Josh Dunkley (shoulder reconstruction) and Tom Campbell (abdominal strain) have returned to training, with Campbell expected to return in two or three weeks.

Meanwhile, midfielder Brad Lynch's season is in doubt after he hurt a hamstring in the VFL last Saturday night.

"I've assessed Brad today and can confirm he does have a moderate grade hamstring injury," Bell said.

"Since he's the type of athlete that involves a lot of high speed with his game, we're going to have to be really careful with Brad's reload and at this stage. I'm anticipating that he'll miss the next six-to-seven weeks of footy."
