SUNDAY night can be a great time of the week for AFL Fantasy coaches. You are either basking in the glory of a league win or you are able to put the weekend behind you, and when lockout lifts you can go ahead and make your rage trades.
It can be therapeutic to dump an underperformer, even if you don’t go through with it before the upcoming Friday night lockout.
Planning what to do with your two trades, and how to use them to best improve your team, starts straight away. The perfect combination is sometimes found a bit past bedtime when you should be sleeping before that dreaded Monday morning wake up for work or school.
As coaches, we can’t get too complacent in thinking this game is smooth sailing each week.
On Monday, the MRP rubbed out Toby Greene for two weeks and Toby Nankervis for one. The latter has been one of the buys of the season, justifying his mantle as the second most selected player in the competition with his scores of 131 and 94 in the past fortnight. The Tiger big man has added a cool $107,000 over the opening six rounds.
The Brisbane Lions revealed on Wednesday afternoon that Dayne Beams will miss at least two weeks with a quad injury. Beams too is an extremely popular player, appearing in almost 40 per cent of teams and proving his worth, averaging 105 Fantasy points.
If team selection is like the last few weeks, we’re likely to have another curve ball thrown our way.
We can just hope that some of the players on our non-existent bench come in to help with the carnage.
Can ball-magnet Jake Barrett come in to replace Beams for the Lions?
Will Braydon Preuss get a game for the Roos following his 47 hit-outs and 107 Fantasy points in the VFL?
It seems that Jarryd Roughead is one of the most popular players traded out each week. Once again he’s towards the top of the list mid-week but again it also appears that due to carnage elsewhere, he will get a repreive in our teams.
The Traders will be chatting all things Fantasy from 6pm AEST. Roy, Calvin and Warnie discuss the ins and outs for round seven, the best captaincy options and they’ll be taking your questions about which trades to make.
