SHE MAY be looking forward to a well-earned break, but Brianna Davey has a few more things on her to-do list before she can rest easy.

First up, the Carlton defender will be pulling on the Big V jumper for the NAB AFL Womens State of Origin clash between Victoria and an Allies team on Saturday night at Etihad Stadium.

And next weekend, Davey will line up for her local club St Kilda Sharks in a VFL Women's semi-final against Melbourne University.

"It's been interesting. This VFLW season has been a lot more about managing playing loads than [it has] in the past," Davey said.

"I'm starting to get a little bit tired and need a bit of a break … just some time off footy both physically and mentally before getting into pre-season with Carlton."

Most AFLW players returned to state league competitions soon after the inaugural national season ended in late March. Most would have been either training or playing with only a few breaks since November last year.

Davey has played 11 of a possible 14 VFLW matches, and is fully recovered from the back injury that plagued the second half of her AFLW season.

"It [being injured] was frustrating at the time, because I was in good form.

"I only missed one match [for the Blues], but once I got back into the team I was still having to manage a bit of pain. The most frustrating part was not being able to play at full capacity."

Davey said she was excited to be playing with the best of the best in the State of Origin match.

"I've played with and against some of the other Victorian girls, so it's great getting to know them a bit better personally.

"It'll be so cool to pull on a Victorian guernsey."

The 22-year-old is studying teaching at Victoria University while working part-time for Carlton in its community and diversity team.

"We run programs around respect, gender equality, healthy minds and bodies and leadership," Davey said.

"The job is perfect for what I am studying, because I'm able to get into classrooms and work with kids."

Davey welcomed the Sharks' recent signing of her new Carlton teammate Tayla Harris, who will play for the Allies on Saturday night.

Harris sensationally requested a trade from the Brisbane Lions to the Blues during the AFLW off-season and has been easing into Victorian footy, playing two games for the Sharks to date.

"I've played a bit against her, so it's nice to have her on my team," Davey said.

"She's definitely an asset in the forward line, and has the ability to burst a game apart in a quick space of time."

Another addition to Carlton's list for 2018 is Collingwood's 2017 best and fairest, Nicola Stevens.

Davey, who played with Stevens in several AFL women's exhibition matches in the past few years, said the classy half-back would slot in nicely.

Stevens' arrival might even see Davey released into the midfield, where her booming kicking could be used as a weapon.

"She's an awesome person and a great player. We've played together before and we link up well," Davey said.

"Our aim in general was to build a versatile list, so hopefully the addition of Nic allows us to move [other players] around a bit."

Entry to Saturday night's NAB AFL Women's state of origin match at Etihad Stadium is free. The match will be streamed live on AFL.com.au from 7.30pm AEST.
