Luke Brown (groin, one week): The defender carried the groin injury through the end of last season. He is expected to be available for the JLT Community Series.

Kyle Cheney (groin, one week): As with Brown, Cheney has been on a modified program for the entire pre-season. He is also on track to feature in the pre-season games.

Brad Crouch (hamstring, six weeks): The injury-plagued midfielder is struggling to overcome a hamstring injury suffered in January. The club originally expected him to be available for the JLT Community Series, but he has since been ruled out and is considered a long shot to play round one.

Elliott Himmelberg (shin splints, week by week): The Crows are carefully managing the workload of the key-position prospect. He has sat out of some drills depending on how his body is feeling. The club is confident he will be available for the pre-season games.

Alex Keath (groin, one week): The former cricketer has been managed through the pre-season. He has a similar timeline for a return to Brown and Cheney.

Paul Seedsman (groin, one week): The speedy winger has been on limited duties for the entire pre-season. The Crows expect Seedsman to be available for the JLT Community Series.

Scott Thompson (shoulder, two weeks): The veteran on-baller is staying away from contact work at this stage. Given his age and vast experience, Thompson will be eased through the pre-season games, but should be available for round one.

Others
Key forwards Josh Jenkins (ankle) and Tom Lynch (knee) have returned to full training this week after off-season surgeries. Wayne Milera has also recovered from a minor knee injury and is back to full training, as are draftees Ben Davis and Ben Jarman. - Lee Gaskin

Dayne Beams (knee, TBC): Beams has taken longer than expected to recover from his knee surgery, but has been running strongly for weeks. He should be integrated into full training sometime in the coming weeks, although a return date is still up in the air.

Jarrod Berry (knee, 6 weeks): Berry went in for a minor cleanup on his knee last week and could be back as soon as the final round of the JLT Community Series, but more likely in time for round one.

Allen Christensen (shoulder, TBC): The former Cat has had an excellent pre-season after dislocating his shoulder midway through 2016, but went in for a cleanup of the area recently. He has resumed training and not lost much fitness, but may take a few weeks to get back to his best.

Sam Skinner (knee, mid-season): After suffering a second ACL rupture last July, Skinner is back doing a strong volume of running. He is expected back playing mid-late season.

Alex Witherden (broken leg, indefinite): Witherden broke his leg in May, and since being drafted by the Lions with pick No.23, have modified his training. He's running well but has been kept out of match simulation. The club will take their time with the teenager, so don't expect to see him too early in the season. - Michael Whiting

Patrick Cripps (back, round one): Blues fans nearly choked on their cornflakes when they learned last November that their gun utility had stress fractures in his back and would miss a couple of months of pre-season training. He returned to full training last week and should be available for round one against Richmond at the MCG. The bigger issue will be his fitness over the entire season, because he did lose a large training block.

Andrew Phillips (foot, early season): The ruckman managed 16 games for the Blues last year, but went on the long-term injury list on January 20 because of stress fractures in his foot. The Blues could recall him in time for the season opener, but he shapes as an unlikely starter against the Tigers. - Ashley Browne

Tim Broomhead (shoulder, one week): Unlikely to play in the forthcoming intraclub but should be available for selection in the first game of the JLT Community Series.

Tom Langdon (back, TBC): A frustrating period for Langdon as he begins to build his fitness following a back injury. The Magpie defender is progressing slowly but steadily.

Callum Brown (glandular fever, 4 weeks): Although the initial prognosis was that Brown would be out for "a few weeks", the Magpies will be guided by his recovery rather than any timeline. He will then have to rebuild his fitness base with the opening of the VFL season in April more a target than the opening of the AFL season.

Sam McLarty (shoulder, 4-6 weeks): Collingwood's first pick in the NAB AFL Draft is being given time to get his shoulder in shape to cope with the demands of full training and games. His sights will be set on making a start early in the VFL season.

Brayden Sier (back, 4-6 weeks): Another player who won't return to full training until the medical staff are confident he will sustain a comeback after battling back issues.

Others
Ben Reid has recovered from his knee operation but is likely to sit out the intraclub game while Jamie Elliott (back), Matt Scharenberg (knee) and Jackson Ramsay (knee) are raring to go after spending last year on the sidelines. Ramsay showed his promise in two strong games before the knee buckled. Ben Crocker (hip) is fine while Mitch McCarthy (navicular) is back in full training. - Peter Ryan

Tom Bellchambers (knee, 4-6 weeks): Another pre-season ruined by injury will stall Bellchambers' start to 2017. But the Bombers are confident they have discovered the problem to his knee hassles and he can have an impact this year.

Joe Daniher (knee, 1-2 weeks): Daniher rejoined match simulation training last week but is still touch-and-go to be ready for the Bombers' first JLT Community Series game against Collingwood next week.

Michael Hartley (hamstring, 1 week): The tall defender hurt his hamstring in a practice game in late January but it was considered only minor. He should be available for Essendon's pre-season campaign.

Cale Hooker (hamstring, 2-3 weeks): The important Bomber will be managed tightly right up until round one. He has been training with the modified group after a hamstring strain in his first pre-season back from suspension.

Michael Hurley (ankle, 1-2 weeks): The Bombers weren't too concerned when the star defender hobbled from their intraclub clash last week. He's tipped to be fine to play in the pre-season competition.

Alex Morgan (ankle, 1-2 weeks): Morgan injured his ankle in last week's internal game but it isn't at the serious end, with the speedy midfielder/half-back a possibility to play later in the pre-season competition.

Others
Shaun McKernan
had off-season surgery on his wrist and ankle but performed well in last week's intraclub contest while fellow rookie ruckman Sam Draper, in his first season at the club, has joined in training after easing into things.

Harley Bennell (left calf, indefinite): The injury-plagued midfielder has been building his running workload over the past month since seeking specialist treatment for his calf woes in Germany. After missing all of last season due to ongoing issues with his right calf, Bennell's return date remains a wait-and-see proposition.

Zac Clarke (knee ligament, 1-3 weeks): Damaged his left knee in the gym in December but has had the brace removed and is eyeing a return to full training this month. Aiming to be available for round one.

Alex Pearce (partially fractured right leg, indefinite): The emerging tall defender was making steady progress towards a return to full training before hurting the same leg he broke last season at training two weeks ago. Will be in a weight-bearing cast for another month, with his return date unclear.

Aaron Sandilands (calf, 2-4 weeks): Suffered a minor calf setback last week which was set to sideline him from the Dockers' opening JLT Community Series clash with West Coast on February 25.

Others
Doig medallist Lachie Neale is finally back in full training and on track for round one after undergoing off-season surgery on his wrist, shoulder and knee. Ruckman Jonathon Griffin has recovered from Achilles soreness and is also back with the main group. - Travis King

Mark Blicavs (knee, 2-3 weeks): Blicavs has been bothered by knee tendinitis over the pre-season, which has limited his training. Has completed plenty of running – not an area in which he struggles – and is starting to join in footy drills.

Josh Cowan (hamstring, 1-2 weeks): Cowan has had a history of soft-tissue problems, so the Cats' medical staff has been pretty cautious with him. The club is hopeful he will be available for the start of the season.

Cory Gregson (foot, 8-10 weeks): Gregson will miss the start of the home and away season after suffering a setback with his troublesome foot. Still on crutches, the Cats will give him plenty of time to recover before he is cleared to train/play.

Jake Kolodjashnij (thumb, 1-2 weeks): Kolodjashnij spent the majority of his time in the rehab group on Monday. Completed his conditioning work but seemed a little restricted when he went to handle the footy.

Daniel Menzel (knee management, ongoing): After many pre-seasons stuck on the sidelines, Menzel is another to have been eased into training. Has spent a lot of the pre-season running laps to maintain his conditioning and has joined in selected footy drills.

Esava Ratugolea (calf/Achilles, 2 weeks): The young forward/ruck had a minor setback after Christmas. Building his running program so he can join the main group soon.

Others
Mitch Duncan and George Horlin-Smith were limited at training earlier in the week. First-round pick Brandan Parfitt has been training well, but has not done the full load as he eyes a spot in the Cats' side during the JLT Community Series. Fellow draftee Quinton Narkle is also being eased back in after a pre-season niggle. - Ben Guthrie

Gary Ablett (shoulder, 4 weeks): After undergoing his second shoulder surgery in three years, Ablett has recovered strongly but has still not undergone his first full contact session yet. Coach Rodney Eade has indicated he'll be available for the final JLT Community Series match.

Jarrod Harbrow (ankle, 6-8 weeks): Harbrow is recovering well but is still a little way off joining the main group and will be pushing it to be available for round one.

Michael Rischitelli (ACL, round 6-8): Rischitelli's rehab is generally going better than expected, with the hope he'll be back in the first half of the season. He's expected to start agility running shortly.

Tom Nicholls (calf, 1-2 weeks): Nicholls has actually overcome the calf problem that dogged the first part of his pre-season, but is still gradually increasing the training load to minimize his chance of a recurrence. He's expected to be doing everything within the next fortnight. - Michael Whiting

Shane Mumford (right elbow, 2-3 weeks): The ruckman is able to run so won't lose too much condition following his surgery last week.

Brett Deledio (calf, 2-3 weeks): Only a minor strain but could be a major issue given the former Tiger only played 11 games last year due to calf/Achilles problems.

Others
Veteran Steve Johnson isn't far away after his thumb operation before Christmas, while star midfielder Dylan Shiel has just joined the main group after off-season surgery to remove a bone spur on his right ankle, and both should play in the latter part of the JLT Community Series. - Adam Curley

Jon Ceglar (ACL, late season): The Hawks are planning on the basis they might get the ruck/forward back late in the season, which would make it a 12-month rehabilitation. Ceglar is in full rehabilitation mode at the club.

Jaeger O'Meara (knee, early season): There remains a shroud of secrecy around the boom recruit from the Suns. The public line has been that he might not debut until the round four Easter Monday MCG blockbuster against Geelong and the Hawks are right to keep a lid on expectations. But track watchers suggest he is training well and has joined in match simulation. Whether he features in the JLT Community Series is unclear. - Ashley Browne

Dean Kent (back, 2-3 weeks): Suffered a setback in his training before the Christmas break and has been eased back into training. More than likely to miss the JLT Community Series.

Dom Tyson (knee, 2-3 weeks): Tyson is set to ramp up his contact-based training next week. The midfielder dislocated his patella tendon during Melbourne's pre-Christmas camp.

Ben Kennedy (ankle, 2-3 weeks): The nippy forward has been managed in the last couple of weeks as he builds towards the JLT Community Series. May miss the pre-season games.

Mitch Hannan (shoulder, 1 week): The athletic draftee is slowly being integrated back into training after off-season surgery. Has impressed with his application during rehab and is close to joining his teammates in full-scale contact training.

Jed Anderson (AC joint, 4-6 weeks): Damaged his right shoulder late last month at training and underwent surgery. Won't play in North's JLT Community Series campaign, but is hoping to return – most likely in the VFL – by round one.

Taylor Garner (hip, 7 weeks): The 2012 draft's No.15 pick did not play a senior game after round three last year and has again battled hip problems this pre-season. Has been increasing the volume and intensity of his running recently, but North won't rush his return.

Todd Goldstein (ankle, 3 weeks): The ruckman has been on restricted duties since returning from the Christmas break, but the Kangaroos are confident he will be back for their pre-season clash with Hawthorn.

Ben Jacobs (foot, 3 weeks): Has been managed conservatively this pre-season as he returns from the fifth metatarsal stress fracture that sidelined him from senior action after round eight last year. Set to return in North's JLT game against the Hawks.

Oscar Junker (broken tibia, 12-16 weeks): The rookie broke his leg after landing awkwardly during North's practice match against VFL affiliate Werribee last Saturday. Expected to return in round seven or eight.

Dougal Howard (ACL, 2-4 months): The second-year ruckman is slightly ahead of schedule. Howard completes the majority of training with the main group, but isn't doing any contact work. The Power are taking a cautious approach to his return, which will likely be early in the season through the SANFL.

Angus Monfries (shoulder, 4-5 weeks): The experienced forward is being carefully managed after injuring his shoulder in training in November. He's been ruled out of the club's intraclub game on Friday, February 17, but should play in the later stages of the JLT Community Series and be available for round one.

Jesse Palmer (groin, 2-3 weeks): Has been on a modified program to avoid pushing too hard and causing an injury. Won't play the Power's intraclub game and will be managed through the JLT Community Series. Expected to be available for round one.

Others
Key forward Charlie Dixon has returned to full training this week after having an ankle operation in November. He will play a limited role in the Power's intraclub. Dixon will be available for the JLT Community Series, but won't play all the games. Jack Hombsch and Billy Frampton have been in full training since the Christmas break. - Lee Gaskin
